LEARN engages in urban policy discourse which is critical in shaping the future of cities. The network aims to bridge the gap between research and practical implementation, ensuring that evidence-based insights inform decision-making processes. The network seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of urban policy landscapes, by mapping urban actors, their roles and challenges in policy formulation and implementation.  This involves cross-city knowledge exchanges with multidisciplinary stakeholders in Eastern Africa and beyond.

In addition, the network seeks to test existing and new policies from within and outside and evaluate local urban policy ‘impact’ on international policies. An essential aspect of our policy activities is actively engaging with policy actors to gather their research priorities and needs. This allows LEARN to advocate for equitable urban development strategies, based on rigorous research and analysis. By fostering dialogue between researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and community stakeholders, we facilitate the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and best practices, leading to more effective and inclusive urban policies. Ultimately, our engagement in policy discourse is driven by our commitment to creating positive change and improving the quality of life in cities in East Africa and around the world.
