Clean Energy and Conservation in Kuku Group Ranch

This community brief focuses on clean energy and conservation efforts within Kuku Group Ranch, a Maasai pastoralist community located in southern Kenya near Amboseli National Park. The project explores how local households balance energy needs and environmental conservation through sustainable practices such as the adoption of clean cooking technologies and alternative livelihoods that reduce pressure on forest resources. Drawing from field interviews, household surveys, and participatory discussions, the brief highlights the interconnection between energy use, gender roles, and ecosystem preservation. It underscores how community-led initiatives particularly those driven by women’s groups are reshaping resource management, promoting energy efficiency, and supporting climate adaptation in dryland ecosystems.
