The second LEARN Symposium was convened from 03 to 05 June 2026 in Kigali, Rwanda. It was co
hosted by the University of Rwanda through its School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE)
and organised by the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universities (LDE) Global, a strategic alliance between
Leiden University, Delft University of Technology, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. Participants
came from academic, government, civil society, private sector, and community organisations across
Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Burundi, and the Netherlands.

The symposium had a highly participatory, reflective, and immersive format. As the LEARN Secretariat noted in its post-symposium communication to participants, the gathering convened not around a  PowerPoint but around a fire: a deliberate choice to foster honest dialogue, shared discomfort and  collective commitment. The event balanced high-level reflection, local grounding, and collaborative working sessions over three full days.
